New Test for Breast Cancer Patients to Kick Chemo | TopNews Arab ...

Breast CancerA team from the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre has revealed recently that breast cancer patients now do not need to worry as a new test can determine whether or not the disease will recur after treatment.

ICH4 that measures levels of ER, PR, HER2 and Ki67 proteins in tumour in order to predict the risk of recurrence has been developed by the team. The test prevents women from taking chemotherapy taken to cut risks of its reappearance.

It has been found that although a surgery is received by women to take out the tumour, six months of chemotherapy is often recommended following the same to be undergone by them. However, the same is an unbearable treatment and leads to varied illnesses. As per the report, it can cause fatigue, hair loss and nausea and can even lead to infertility in some cases.

While chemotherapy is a costly treatment, the new test is cost-effective too, says the report. Researchers from The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust said that it picks the risk at an early stage. The test is being expected to be available this year in the UK.
