"One of the most amazing powerful experiences of my life."
Justin Bieber made his way down to Guatemala to do a bit of charity work over the weekend to give back to a community that is much in need. I know that I like to give JB a hard time for being a putz from time to time (and let’s face it, he makes it far too easy sometimes) but this is one time that I have to commend the lad (even if homie felt compelled to do his good work shirtless when disrobing really wasn’t necessary at all). Justin teamed up with an organization called Pencils of Promise to help build a schoolhouse for a community of needy children and according to The Biebs himself, the experience was a positively life-changing one for him. Justin Bieber ventured deep into the Guatemalan jungle to help a group of poor villagers construct a badly needed schoolhouse this weekend … and TMZ has the pics. After Justin performed in Guatemala City on Saturday, he joined up with Pencils of Promise — an organization dedicated to building schools for communities in need. JB was choppered into a remote area outside the city on Sunday … where a makeshift construction crew was already busy putting up walls for the new school. In a video posted on his blog, Bieber says the town was overrun with poverty — “I’m not talking about poor, I’m talking about 10 people living in a little shack.” Inspired, Justin ditched his shirt and went to work — grabbing a wheelbarrow and helping to build a wall for the school. He also took off his shoes and gave them to one of the local children. Afterward, Bieber says it was, “one of the most amazing powerful experiences of my life.” Bieber says the experience helped him grow as a person — saying, “I feel like they helped me as much as I helped them.”
BELIEVE ME, I want to believe that this experience truly had an impact on Bieber‘s life (and hopefully behavior) but time will tell if that is really the case. I think I can give him the benefit of the doubt so … let’s just assume this life-changing experience will actually help him “grow as a person” like he says. Shirt or no shirt, this charitable act will improve the lives of these kids and that’s the important thing to take away from this. Well done, Bieber. You’ve actually impressed me today. I would love to see JB continue to do good work like this in the future. That would actually make a fan for sure.
